Childhood

Her Start in Music:

Born in Windsor, Ontario on August 28, 1965 with birth-name of Eilleen Regina Edwards.

Her parents split at a very young age, and her and her younger sister went with their mum when she remarried a man named Jerry Twain, an Ojibwa Indian. Jerry then adopted both girls, making their lasts names Twain.

This was the beginning of Twain's music interests and career once her Jerry allowed her to join his band. The "Temagami Anishnawbe Bear Island First Nation" was where Twain's parents and friends saw her remarkable talents.

At age three, Twain could sing on key, harmonize and was beginning to learn about the guitar.

At the beginning of Twain's career, she changed her first name into being Shania. This was influenced by her Ojibwa heritage for the meaning "I'm on my way", meant to keep her dedication and devotion.

Genre:

Shania Twain's music formed into a constant intertwining of Country, Country Pop, Country Rock and Pop music

Influences on Her Music:

Shania's new heritage had a major instant impact as it was where she learned about her talents. After her parents' fatal death in a car accident, Shania had to take care of her siblings. This hardship pushed Shania's musical career into full swing very young in life in order for her family to be taken care of. Country Pop was inspired from her childhood struggles (unable to sustain proper meals, etc.) and the fact that she had a story to tell.
